Small island states are the most vulnerable when it comes to climate change because it is hit with flood after earthquake after hurricane, each new disaster arriving with increasing ferocity and frequency.

Due to lack of infrastructure, city planning and geographic location, combined with sea level rise, frequent flooding and projected changes in extreme weather events, Mozambique’s coastal cities are among the most vulnerable in Africa to climate change.

India is embarking on one of the fastest rural-to-urban transitions in human history, with 200 million more city dwellers expected by 2030, all using new buildings, roads and cars.

Some people consider Greenland the “ground zero” of climate change. As time goes on, more and more glaciers are at risk of melting.

“Climate change has become the biggest long-term threat to [Mexico City’s] future. And that’s because it is linked to water, health, air pollution, traffic disruption from floods, housing vulnerability to landslides — which means we can’t begin to address any of the city’s real problems without facing the climate issue.”

Russia has experienced flooding and storms that are climate related, but their efforts to lower their emissions have not been impacted.

Two of the islands disappeared underwater in 1999 due to changes in climate. Sea level rise is detrimental to low lying countries such as Kiribati.
